Zechariah Chapter 6 Treasures
From The Book of Zechariah
Zech 6: [1]
And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four
chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of
brass.
1. The Conditions (1)
In Chapter 6, Zechariah is not asleep nor is he dreaming;
Zechariah was given an actual vision.
Remember Israel has returned from exile to Jerusalem and
found the city and Temple destroyed.
Zechariah
has been sent to encourage Israel to rebuild the Temple.
God
gave Zechariah an 8 stage vision to stir the people to return to the work God
had called them to.
Zechariah
was given this vision in one night. It is a revelation of hope and joy and a
promise of peace.
God
is encouraging the people in the restoration of Jerusalem and rebuilding of the
Temple.
Zechariah
presents this vision to the people as the message that God gave him.
First
Zechariah saw a man among the myrtle trees in the bottom.
The
man was the pre-incarnate Christ who came to the Jews in their lowest valley to
encourage them.
Secondly,
Zechariah saw 4 horns that were powerful nations who scattered Israel.
Zechariah
saw 4 carpenters came who destroyed the horns, breaking their power and
delivering Israel.
Thirdly,
Zechariah saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
The
LORD says Jerusalem will be rebuilt and inhabited. He will be a wall of fire
round about the city.
Fourthly,
Zechariah saw Joshua the High Priest standing before the Lord
& Satan standing to resist him.
Zechariah
understood that the High Priest represented Israel whom Satan is an adversary
to.
The
LORD took away the filthy garments of the High Priest and caused the iniquity
of the priest to pass.
Fifthly,
Zechariah saw the golden candlestick, with olive trees standing on each side of
it.
Israel
will have the direct supply of the Holy Spirit of God, ensuring the Temple and
city is rebuilt.
Sixthly,
Zechariah saw a flying roll which was actually a scroll unwound, flying over
the land.
This
scroll represents the Word of God. In other words, God has a standard. Jesus is
the Word of God.
Seventhly,
Zechariah saw a woven basket, a woman inside it and a weighted lid on top of
it.
This
measured basket was representative of the fraudulent commerce of a corrupt
economic system.
The
angel cast down the woman into the woven measured basket and slammed the
weighted lid.
God
is demonstrating His Sovereign authority over sin. God will judge sin.
One day the lid will be slammed on the sinner, sin and
the system forever.
Zech 6: [1]
And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four
chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of
brass. [2] In the first chariot
were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses; [3] And in the
third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled
and bay horses. [4] Then I
answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What
are these, my lord? [5] And the
angel answered and said unto me, These are the four
spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the
earth. [6] The black horses
which are therein go forth into the north country; and
the white go forth after them; and the grisled go
forth toward the south country. [7]
And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro
through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the
earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth. [8] Then cried he upon me, and spake unto
me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north
country have quieted my spirit in the north country.
2. The Chariots (1-8)
In
verse 1, Zechariah saw 4 chariots drawn by teams of horses.
These chariots burst forth from “between two mountains”
which were mountains of brass.
Mountains are symbolic of strength and brass is symbolic
of judgment.
These
2 mountains are the Mount of Olives (Zech
14:4) and Mount Zion. Between them is a valley.
We
have a powerful scene of God’s judgment.
Zechariah saw the war chariots of God powering down
through the valley between 2 mountains.
Joel 3:2 I will also gather all nations and will
bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat.
The first chariot was drawn by red horses which symbolize
war.
The
second chariot was drawn by black horses which symbolize famine and
consequences of war.
The
third chariot was drawn by white horses which symbolize victory.
The
fourth chariot was drawn by pale horses which symbolize death.
Each
chariot has a “spirit” or an angelic being for they’ve been “standing
before the Lord.”
They
are God’s agents of providence. I believe represents the time of Tribulation
found in Revelation 6.
The black horses went to the north which represents
Babylon, Medo-Persia, Grecia,
and the Romans.
The white horses follow behind the black horses. Victory
is guaranteed.
The pale horses went to the south. To the south was Egypt
who was constantly attacking Israel.
In verse 7, the pale horses went forth at full speed.
They “sought to go”; they are chomping at the bit.
In
verse 8, this judgment of the northern enemies of God’s people causes God’s
spirit to rest.
No
matter how weak and insignificant we may seem, God will overcome the enemies of
His people.
God
will protect and preserve His people.
This
concludes the 8 stage vision of Zechariah.
Zech 6: [9]
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, [10] Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai,
of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah,
which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house
of Josiah the son of Zephaniah; [11]
Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of
Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest; [12] And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose
name Is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build
the temple of the LORD: [13]
Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and
shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne:
and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
3. The Crowns (9-13)
Heldai, Tobijah
and Jedaiah have come away from Babylon’s captivity
on their own accord.
These three men came with an offering for the rebuilding
of the Temple.
Zechariah was to take their gift and the gift from the
house of Josiah.
Zechariah is told to receive the gifts of gold and silver
and make crowns out of them.
These crowns are to be placed on the head of Joshua the
High Priest.
This is unusual because priests were not crowned, Kings
were.
Remember Zerubbabel is the
governor. He is in the lineage of King David.
But God wants the High Priest Joshua crowned and not the
governor.
God wants this because the next descendant of King that
will be crowned is Jesus.
Jesus is our great High Priest. He presented His blood
and He maketh intercession for us.
Jesus
is also King of Kings. The crowning of Joshua the High Priest is a figure of
the Messiah, Jesus.
Hebrews 7:1 -3
[1] For this Melchisedec,
king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the
slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; [2] To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by
interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which
is, King of peace; [3] Without
father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor
end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth
a priest continually. (See also Heb
5:6)
In
verse 12, Zechariah is told to give a word from God to the High Priest.
Zechariah
proclaims “Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH.”
“Behold
the man” is the same words Pilate used to present the humiliated
Christ, John 19:5.
But
Zechariah is not presenting the humiliated Christ but the triumphant Christ.
Zechariah
is speaking about one named “The BRANCH.”
By
the time of Jesus’ birth, the royal line of King David had sunk into obscurity.
But
Jesus is the root out of dry ground. He is likened unto a shoot or a sprout.
Jesus
came when there seemed to be no sign of a fruitful life.
In
verse 12, “He shall grow up out of his place”.
Isaiah 53:2 he shall grow up before him as a tender
plant, and as a root out of dry ground.
He
grew up as a man among men, though He was God.
He
came unto his own and his own received him not, John 1:11.
In
verse 12, “He shall build the temple of the Lord.”
In Jeremiah 23:5 the Messiah is called the
righteous Branch of David. Jesus is King (Matthew).
In Zechariah 3:8 the Messiah is called my
servant the BRANCH. Jesus is the servant (Mark).
In Zechariah 6:12 the Messiah is called
the man, the BRANCH. Jesus is the son of man (Luke).
In Isaiah 4:2 the Messiah is called the
branch of the Lord. Jesus is the Son of God (John).
It
is “The BRANCH” that will build the
Temple of the Lord.
Realize
the first Temple was glorious and was built by Solomon. Babylon destroyed
Solomon’s Temple.
Israel
is rebuilding that Temple led by Zerubbabel. Antiochus Epiphanies tore most of this Temple down.
In 6
BC, Herod rebuilt and enlarged the Temple. This Temple, Jesus went through and
cleansed.
Jesus
said in Matt 24:2 there shall not be left here one stone upon
another, that shall not be thrown down.
This
prophecy was fulfilled in 70AD as the Roman Emperor Titus destroyed the Temple.
Yet
Jesus prophesied of another Temple Matt
24:15 When ye therefore shall see the
abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy
place.
This
is the fourth Temple and today there are plans being made to rebuild the
Temple.
We
do know that there will be a Temple during the Millennium and Christ will rule
and reign from it.
In
verse 13, Jesus “shall sit and rule upon his throne; and shall be a priest upon his
throne.”
Jesus
is the Crowned King and Crowned Priest, (Ezekiel
40 to 42).
Rebuilding
the Temple is the plan of God and the purpose of the Savior. The church is a
type of Temple.
Jesus
came “to seek and to save that which was lost”, Luke 19:10.
When
He saves us, He moves within our soul and abides within. The individual
believer is a Temple.
1Cor 6:19-20
[19] What? know ye not that your body
is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye
are not your own?[20] For ye are
bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God's.
Eph 2:19-22
[19] Now therefore ye are no more
strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the
saints, and of the household of God; [20]
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ
himself being the chief corner stone; [21]
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth
unto an holy temple in the Lord: [22]
In whom ye also are builded together for an
habitation of God through the Spirit.
Zech 6: [14]
And the crowns shall be to Helem,
and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah,
and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD. [15] And they that are far off shall
come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of
hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently
obey the voice of the LORD your God.
4. The Confirmation (14-15)
The crowns are “a memorial in the Temple of the Lord.”
The crowns were hanging in the top of the Temple windows
serving as reminder the King is coming.
“They that are far off shall come.”
The Gentiles will be saved and be part of the kingdom.
“Ye
shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you.”
Jesus
coming was a confirmation.
The
Jews rejected Him the first time.
But
Jesus is coming again and this time He comes as King!
“If ye
will diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
Friend,
if you will humble yourself and call on Jesus, when He comes, He will be coming
for you.

power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
